Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To decrease the circulation amount of the noncondensed gas in the cooling and the condensation of outlet gas of the methanol synthesis column with a pluratity of condensation stages arranged in series and having diffierent temperatures, by cooling and washing the noncondensed gas exhausted from the condensation stage of the lowest temperature with the condensate from the stage of the higher temperature, thereby recovering methanol. CONSTITUTION: The outlet gas of the methanol syntheis column is fed to the water cooler 2 to condense a part of the gas, which is fed the vapor-liquid separator 4 to separate crude methanol. The noncondensed gas is fed to the water cooler 6 through the pipe 5. The gas is cooled sucessively in the coolers 6 and 10 with water maintained at different temperatures, and crude methanol recovered in the vapor-liquid separators 8 and 12 connected with the coolers 6 and 10 is discharged through the pipes 21 and 22. The noncondensed gas from the separator 12 is fed to the bottom of the washing column 14. The condensate from the first stage separator 4 is cooled in the water cooler 17, fed to the top of the washing column 14 by the pump 19 and countercurrently contacted with the noncondensed gas fed to the bottom to absorb methanol contained in the gas. EFFECT: The amount of the catalyst can be decreased. COPYRIGHT: (C)1981,JPO&Japio
