Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To avoid the noise occurrence when the amount of phase shift is switched and thus ensure a highly stable reception, by improving the control means of the variable directional antenna which includes the switching phase shifter capable of a discontinuous switching plus the variable attenuator capable of a continuous variation respectively. CONSTITUTION:The signal is received 22 by variable directional antenna 10 which compounds the outputs of antenna elements 11 and 12 via switching phase shifters 14 and 15 capable of a discontinuous switching of the amount of its phase shift plus variable attenuators 16 and 17 capable of a continuous variation of the amount of its attenuation each in series. Then the control is given properly to the amount of phase shift of shifters 14 and 15 as well as to the amount of attenuation of attenuators 16 and 17 in accordance with the level of the received signal of receiver 22. Thus the directivity of antenna 10 is varied. And the phase shift switching control is corried out for shifters 14 and 15 with an ample amount of attenuation secured for attenuators 16 and 17 each.
