Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the metal thin film type magnetic recording medium excellent in corrosion resistance, wear resistance and durability, by providing nonmagnetic amorphous metal layer on the ferromagnetic substance metal layer on the base. CONSTITUTION: The amorphous metal (about 600W950 in Vickers hardness and about 120W140μΩcm in electric resistivity) of nonmagnetism, shown in M 1- X YX (where: M is Ni, Cr, Mo, Al etc., Y is Si, P,B,C and x is 0.1W0.5) is used. That is, on the base consisting of nonmagnetic material such as polyester and aluminum, the metal magnetic substance layer about 0.1W1μm in thickness such as Fe, Ni is provided and the said amorphous metal is vapordeposited (or sputtered) further on it, to form the protective film 0.01W0.1μm in thickness for the recording medium.
