Optical repeating system for optical communication
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To realize an optical repeating system having high stability and high reliability with reduced probability of fault, by directly amplifying an optical signal with the light and by means of an induced Raman effect within an optical fiber and thus eliminating installation of an electric signal processing circuit into a repeater. CONSTITUTION:An optical pulse (oscillation: nuO-nui) 5 for signal which was modulated at a transmitter station 1 and transmitted through an optical fiber 2 is made incident to an optical repeater 3. The repeater 3 includes a pumping light source 3a which generates such light of oscillation nuO that is converted into the 1st stokes light (oscillation: nuO-nui) in the optical fiber plus a synthesizer 3b consisting of a half-mirror. The pulse 5 made incident to the repeater 3 is synthesized with the pumping light to be sent to an optical fiber 4. The pumping light generated from the light source 3a is converted into a signal optical pulse by a induced Raman effect of an optical fiber only when the pumping light is together with the signal optical pulse while the light is propagating through the fiber 4.
