Manufacture of silver halide emulsion
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a single dispersion silver iodobromide emulsion contg. Ag uniformly and also suitable for use as a matrix for epitaxial mixed silver halide crystals by forming silver iodobromide contg. Ag of high concn. in a liq. contg. protective colloid while maintaining the PAg value in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:To a liq. contg. protective colloid such as gelatin are added a KI soln., a KBr soln. and an AgNO3 soln. while keeping the PAg value constant in the 1-8 range, and a single dispersion silver iodobromide emulsion contg. 15-40 mol% Ag to the total silver halide is prepared at 3.0-8.5pH and 40-85 deg.C in about 10-200 min. The silver iodobromide thus obtd. has high sensitivity, undergoes little fog, and is applied especially to fields where the photographic effect of ion is utilized, e.g. high sensitivity black-and-white negative film, medical X-ray film and multilayered color negative film. Little fog occurs even in high temp. development at >= 35 deg.C. When this emulsion is used as a matrix for epitaxial mixed silver halide crystals, the developing and fixing speeds can be increased without lowering the sensitivity and image quality.
