Measuring method for quantity of chlorine in polyvinyl chloride resin
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To measure the quantity of chlorine in the resin and control the remaining quantity of a stabilizer by irradiating fluorescent X-rays to the polyvinyl chloride resin containing titanium oxide and by finding the intensity ratio between ClKalpha ray and TiKalpha ray thus obtained. CONSTITUTION:After a polyvinyl chloride sol enamel is applied on a melted galvanized steel plate, a polyvinyl chloride sol coating film is prepared at a fixed time of baking and at varied temperature of baking. Then the X-rays are irradiated on the film and thereby the ClKalpha ray and TiKalpha ray are obtained. The relations of the intensity ratio R between ClKalpha rays and TiKalpha rays to the temperature of baking are as shown by the figure, and the intensity ratio R becomes large when the temperature of baking is low since the pyrolysis of the polyvinyl chloride resin does not proceed so much, while reversely, R becomes small when the temperature of baking is high. That is, R becomes small as the quantity of chlorine in the resin is reduced, while becoming large as it is increased, and thus R can be a parameter of the quantity of chlorine in the resin, i.e. the reamining quantity of the stabilizer. Accordingly, by controlling the temperature of baking so as for R to be found in a prescribed range, the remaining quantity of the stabilizer in a product can be controlled.
