Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To reduce frictional force to improve a running characteristic by forming a magnetic layer on the surface of a nonmagnetic base material and by forming an applied film including an interface activator of an HLB 8.0 or less and an interface activator of an HLB 8.0 or more on the surface of the magnetic layer or the reverse face of the base material. CONSTITUTION: An applied liquid including a binder such as vinylidene chlorideacrylic acid ester where an interface activator (such as sorbitan tristearate) of an HLB value (indicating balance between an affinity property for water and an affinity property for oil), which is obtained by the Davies method, 8.0 or less and interface acitvator (such as polyoxyethylene lauryl ether) of an HLB value 8.0 or more of several % are included is applied onto a magnetic layer provided on a support material film such as polyester or onto the face of the support material opposite to the magnetic layer. By the synergistic effect of the lubricant action of the interface activator of an HLB value 8.0 or less and the charging prevention property of the activator of 8.0 or more, running frictional force is reduced considerably, and a magnetic recording medium superior in running characteristic is obtained.
