Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: To reduce the effect by noise, by performing character recognition through overall judgement of the result of character recognitions, after the character recognition every scanning with a plurality of scannings for the same character. CONSTITUTION: The scanner 1 is at hand, and the paper 3 on which letters are described is moved horizontally. The letters are emitted with the lamp 4 and the image is formed on the sensor 6 arranging the photo electric elements in two dimensional manner via the lens system 5. The binary circuit 7 makes a plurality of scannings for m×n sets of photo electric elements for the same character during the movement of the paper 3, and the result of scannings is fed to the characteristic pick up circuit 8 for the binary signal treatment and the character area detection circuit 12. After the characteristic section Ai every line detected is made data compression Ci at the partial characteristic pick up circuit 9, character identification is made at the identification processing circuit 10. The identification result selection circuit 11 outputs the character recognizing signal D out without error, based on the result of a plurality of identifications to the same character.
