Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain the signal connector which is suited for near distance signal transmission through optical fibers by providing a means of optically coupling the signal transmission part and photo detecting part of optical fibers through utilization of the refractive index change of light in said parts. CONSTITUTION:Although the core part of an optical fiber 7 is glass, the clad part of the surface is made of plastics which are easy to deform under pressure. As a result of this, the clad part deformed by being given pressure has an increased density, hence an increased refractive index. If such optical fiber 7 is used and is mounted by a retainer fitting 8, the light 10 of more than the specified angle out from a light emitting diode 9 first passes through the clad part of an increased refractive index owing to deformation, enters the core part, is totally reflected in the clad part having no change in refractive index and is confined in the core part, whereby it is waveguided. This constitution yields the signal connector suited for near signal transmission.
