Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of fish tail, and to contrive improvement of the yield, by installing the press machine for deforming both edges of the tip of material into narrower breadth on this side of the reducing roll, and by executing the edging work to reduce the breadth. CONSTITUTION:On this side of the reducing roll 4 of the edging mill (at the position on the entry and exist sides), the press machine 5 for deforming the breadth at both edges of the tip and the rear end of the material 1 like as the slab, etc., into narrower breadth than that of the material 1, is installed so as to be movable with the cylinder 6 in the opposite directions. Before the material 1 is fed into the reducing roll 4 for carrying out several passes of the edging work, the breadth at both edges is reduced with the entry side press machine 5 in order to prevent the contact between the tip of material 1 and the roll 4. By executing the edging work under these conditions, the amount of fish tail to be generated is reduced, the crop loss due to cutting works is reduced, and the yield is improved.
