Production of copolymer

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE: The copolymerization of ethylene and an α-olefin is effected in the presence of a catalyst containing a substance containing Mg, Ti and/or V, and an organoaluminum compound, to produce a medium or low-density ethylene copolymer. CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst cinsisting of a solid substance containing Mg and Ti and/or V and an organoaluminum compound, the copolymerization of ethylene and 1W40mol%, based on the ehylene, of 5W18C α-olefin is effected in the gas phase in a substantially solvent-free state to produce an ethylene copolymer of 0.85W0.945 density. The catalyst is, e.g., a combination of MgO-RX-TiCl 4 or MgCl 2 -Al(OR) 3 -TiCl 4 (R is organic residue) with an organoaluminum compound as R 3 Al, R 2 AlX (R is 1W20C alkyl aryl, X is halogen).
