Plug for optical connector and production thereof
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To achieve the higher accuracy of the optical connector and higher workability by increasing the fiber outside diameter and core diameter while maintaining concentricity at part of the fiber and increasing the core diameter at the plug end. CONSTITUTION:In case the portion of an optical fiber 1 having been fabricated to a larger size is contacted and fixed in the taper hole at the center of the leading end of a plug 3, the fabricated part of the optical fiber 1 has increased by maintaining the concentricity of the outside diameter of the fiber 1 as well as the diameter of the core 4. Hence, if the leading end of the plug 3 is polished to the portion where the diameter of the core 4 becomes miximum, it assumes the structure wherein the core diameter is made large in the end part of the optical fiber, whereby the losses owing to axial deviation at the connection may be suppressed small. To fabricate part of the optical fiber to a larger diameter, the optical fiber strand is supported in the perpendicular direction by making use of a vacuum chuck and the fabrication is accomplished while it is automatically fed downward under discharge heating. Thereby, the accuracy of the optical connector may be enhanced and workability improved.
