Multi-stable operation feedback type electro-optical device
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To let multi-stable operations be readily accomplished by setting the angle that the transmission axis of at least one of polarizer and analyzer assumes to the crystal axis of the electro-optical crystal element to 5°W40°. CONSTITUTION: Input light 1 is entered to an electro-optical crystal 4 whose refractive index changes in proportion to the applied voltage from a driving amplifier 5 subsequently through a polarizer 2 and optical phase shifting plate 3. The output light thereof is entered to an analyzer 6 which is so arranged as to form two polarized outputs 9 and 10 having mutually orthogonal polarization directions. Part of one polarized light 9 is splittered by a beam splitter 7 and is converted to electric signals by a photo detector 8. Said electric signals are supplied to the driving amplifier 5 to provide the foregoing applied voltage. The transmission axis, i.e., polarizing axis, of at least one of the polarizer 2 and analyzer 6 is set at conventional set angle 45 to the crystal axis of the electro-optical axis 4, or the angles (5°W40°) deviated from -45°.
