Production of moldings with marble pattern
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain moldings with a marble pattern in good productivity through the SMC molding process by using a sheet molding compound (SMC) prepared in such a manner that thin pieces of SMC made of colored fibers are spread appropriately in a base material consisting of colorless fibers for an objective SMC. CONSTITUTION: A black glass roving cut to 25mm is impregnated with a compound obtained through adding a thickener (MgO), a shrinkage reducing material, a mold lubricant, hardner, etc. to 100 parts of unsaturated polyester and 50 parts of hydrous alumina, which is then subjected to thickening and curing to form the SMC. In the process of preparing the SMC from colorless glass fibers in the same way described above, thin pieces in the size of 2mm thick and 20mm square obtained by cuting the black glass SMC resulting from the preceding process are spread dispersedly on the spread cut pieces of roving colorless glass fibers. Several sheets of the SMC thus prepared are placed on a die to obtain moldings with a marble pattern by subjecting these to pressure molding under the conditions of 140°C, 100kg/cm 2 and 5 minutes.
