Fluorescent lamp without electrode
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To raise the efficiency of conversion of high-frequency energy to visible rays of light, by providing a mechanism to excite a cavity resonator in such a high- frequency mode that the line of electric force in the cavity resonator forms a closed loop. CONSTITUTION:High-frequency power produced by a high-frequency oscillator 9 is equally divided into two parts, between which a phase difference is made by a 180 deg. phase shifter 12. The columnar cavity resonator 7 is excited through a coupling hole 8 by the two parts equal in amplitude but opposite in phase. The height and diameter of the resonator 7 are appropriately selected so that the resonator is excited in such a mode that the line of electric force forms a closed loop in the resonator 7. An annular bulb 4 is placed along the line of electric force in the resonator 7. The bulb 4 is excited by high-frequency electric field. Thereby, visible rays of light are produced. Because the wall current of the resonator 7 decreases, the high-frequency energy is efficiently changed into the visible rays of light.
