Triangular-wave generating circuit

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To allow a simple circuit to generate triangular waves with a stable static voltage by making its output waveform depend completely upon an input waveform. CONSTITUTION:When input IN is stable at potential V0, output OUT also remains at nearly V0 and transistors Q1 to Q3 are all ON. If input IN rises in a rectangular shape, the base potential of transistor Q1 rises suddenly and its current increases, so that transistor Q2 will turn OFF. As a result, capacitor C is charged and its output potential OUT rises according to function Ki1 C. Next, when input IN falls and potential decreases down to V0. transistor Q1 turns OFF and transistor Q3 also turns OFF. At this time, since the charged potential of capacitor C2 reaches a certain value, transistor Q2 turns ON to discharge capacitor C2 by way of Q2 and its output potential falls according to a function of i2 C. The gradient of triangular waves varies with the value of K, so that K can be adjusted to any value by adjusting transistors Q1, Q2 and Q3, and resistances R1 and R2.
