Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain even and high-resolving-power toner images free from ground fogs by letting a developer carrier be approached to an electrostatic image holding face and providing a means of forming a developer layer thinner in thickness than the proximity spacing. CONSTITUTION:A toner layer thickness defining member 6 of blade form composed of a soft elastic material such as rubber or the like is contacted to the sleeve 4 surface between the opening 1a of the developing device housing 1 where a rotatable sleeve 4 enclosing a magnet 5 is so disposed as to approach to the photoreceptor surface 5 and the position opposing to the photoreceptor surface 5, so as to form a wedge-form space 8 in which the end angle theta becomes less than 45 deg.. Then, if the sleeve 4 rotates, the even toner layer of around 50mu of a thickness thinner tnan the proximity spacing is formed. When the toner layer opposes to the electrostatic image holding face, it elongates and makes direct contact with the electrostatic image holding face, thus forming the even and high-resolving- power toner image free from ground fogs.
