Optical fiber connector
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To achieve the removal of the crosstalk of transmission lines by tilting the end faces of a pair of optical fibers or optical elements of bi-directional transmission line using photo branching within a fixed range with respect to optical axis and opposedly holding the end faces with simple construction with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION: The end faces of the optical fibers 5, 6 of the connector of a transmission line using a photo branching filter are tilted by an angle θ to an optical axis. The rays 1, 2 advance like arrows and advance like reflected waves 1' 2' and diffracted waves 1", 2" with respect to the normal A'-A' at the sloped faces. The respective refractive indices n 1 , n 2 of the cores and clads and angle of inclination θ are made to the relations like formula [I] so that the reflected waves 1', 2' become larger than the maximum angle ϕ of total reflection on each clad face and are escaped to the outside of the cores. The ends 9, 10 of the first holding members 3, 4 having holes close to the clad outside diameter of the fibers 5, 6 are inclined by the angle θ and both members 3, 4 are inserted and held to the second holding member 15 and are tightened and coupled by fixing members 19, 21. Hence, the crosstalk is removed by using the connector in the optical transmission line and the coupling accuracy and contact condition of the optical fibers to themselves may be improved.
