Treating method for solution of zinc halide in lower alcohol
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To recover zinc halide as pure zinc hydroxide easy to handle by optionally adding hydrochloric acid to a soln. of zinc halide in lower alcohol and adding an aq. soln. of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide. CONSTITUTION: A soln. of zinc halide in lower alcohol formed by dehalogenation reaction of halogenated hydrocarbon and metallic zinc in the presence of lower alcohol contains zinc oxide, etc. besides unreacted metallic zinc as undissolved components. Hydrochloric acid is optionally added to the soln. to dissolve the undissolved components, and the resulting clear soln. in concentrated until the zinc halide concn. reaches 45W65 wt%. An alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hydroxide is added to the soln. in the form of an aq. soln. in an amt. of 1.02W 1.05 mol equivalent to 1 mol of zinc halide, and the mixed soln. is adjusted to pH 9W11 and reacted at 80W100°C for 20W40 min. The reaction product is filtered, washed, and dried. COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
