Abstract
Abstract Electrolysis cell esp. for the electrolysis of NaCl soln., with a casing, an anode, a cathode and a diaphragm which is practically impermeable to liquids and gas and separates the anode and the cathode is characterised by the diaphragm consisting of a hydrolysed copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and sulphonated perfluorovinyl ether of formula FSO2CF2CF2OCF(CF3)CF2OCF = CF2 with a mol. wt. of 900-1600, pref. 1100-1400. The diaphragm prevents undesirable molecular and ionic migration, but allows conduction of electrical current by movement of desirable ions.
