Cylinder head gasket

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To ensure good seal performance about a cooling water hole and an almost equal surface pressure over the total periphery of a combustion chamber hole by providing the second seal member, whose thickness is smaller than the thickness of the first seal member, in the periphery of the cooling water hole. CONSTITUTION:When tightening force is applied to a cylinder head gasket 1, first a bead 15 is deformed. When a shim ring 20 and an opening end part 10a are tightened between a cylinder block and a cylinder head, the bead 15 is closely attached by its deformation to both the cylinder block and the cylinder head with elastic restoration force. Since bolt tightening positions are placed distant from a combustion chamber hole 11, a clearance between both the cylinder head and the cylinder block in the outer in an opposite side to the combustion chamber hole 11 is narrowed as compared with the clearance between both the cylinder block and the cylinder head in a side of the combustion chamber hole 11 when the cylinder block is tightened to the cylinder head, accordingly, the first seal member 31 is closely attached between both the cylinder block and the cylinder head. Simultaneously, the second seal member 32 of thickness further thinner than the first seal member 31 is closely attached to the cylinder block and the cylinder head to cut off communication between the combustion chamber hole 11 and a cooling water hole 12.
