High efficiency type dc/dc converter

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To improve conversion efficiency by making a control IC perform essential PWM control when conversion efficiency is excellent at medium and high power and making it perform intermittent operation at low output power. CONSTITUTION:A control IC 4 starts operation by putting the control terminal on a low level. So, at medium and high output, by detecting, for example, the load current or changing over the switch, or by other method, the signal for load side is put on a low level in advance to make the control IC 4 perform usual PWM control. Moreover, at low output power, the signal is put on a high level to make it perform intermittent operation by an additional circuit.
