Oil absorptive material

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To provide an oil absorptive material which is excellent in oil keeping property after oil absorption without dripping by polymerizing a monomer component which comprises two kinds of specific monomers each having a polymerizable unsaturated group and supporting the resultant crosslinked polymer on a hydrophobic and porous base. CONSTITUTION:90 to 99.999wt.% of a monomer mainly comprising a monomer having a solubility parameter value of 9 or less and having one polymerizable unsaturated group in the molecule, such as methyl acrylate, is mixed with 0.001 to 10wt.% of a crosslinking monomer having two or more polymerizable unsaturated groups in the molecule, such as ethylene glycol diacrylate, so that the sum of them amounts to 100wt.%. Then the obtained monomer component is polymerized to produce a crosslinked polymer. The obtained crosslinked polymer is supported on a hydrophobic and porous base such as polypropylenic nonwoven fabric to produce an oil absorptive material. This oil absorptive material is suitably used for the recovery of thin-film oil floating on the surface of water and the like, since it does not absorb water but selectively absorbs oil only.
