Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To provide an optical amplifier which can maintain a gain constant with a simple configuration without detecting an input light or an output light. CONSTITUTION:A rare earth element-added optical fiber 4 in which an input light Pi and an exciting light Pe from an exciting light source 8 are input, is mounted together with a photodetector 5 in an integrating sphere 6, an integrated value of a spontaneously emitted light Pn emitted from the side of the fiber 4 is detected, and the light source 8 is so controlled by a driving circuit 7 that the detected value becomes constant, thereby maintaining a gain constant.
