Atm cell flow monitor/control system and cell counter circuit

Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To attain accurate policing without contradiction by aborting cells in excess of applied number of cells as violation cells or adding a violation indication to the cells when the cells in excess of the applied cells are sent for the observation period of an optional phase. CONSTITUTION:While a cell transmission number of a specific virtual channel is counted up, a cell transmission pattern by one preceding period (period T) is stored in a shift register 104 and a counter 103 is counted down depending on the information of the presence of the transmission of a cell belonging to a virtual channel in one preceding period outputted from the shift register 104. Thus, the transmission cell number for the period T up to the point of time is always displayed on the counter 103, the presence of violation is discriminated based thereon and the cell transmission is monitored or controlled. Thus, the entire same mechanism is provided in both the terminal equipment and the network. Thus, policing without contradiction is attained.
