Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To always control optimum engine power characteristic and transmission according to a running condition by controlling to interlock one means with the other according to the condition of the other means, either a valve timing changeover means or a deciding means for transmitting characteristic of a transmission. CONSTITUTION:A solenoid valve 23 controlling operation of a changeover mechanism is provided to changeover at least one side valve timing, either intake valves or exhaust valves. A solenoid valve (not shown in the figure) controlling selection of the shift step of the automatic transmission 19 connected to the output shaft of the engine 1 according to a speed change signal output based on a speed change map is provided. These solenoid valves are controlled with an ECU 5 according to a running condition, but in the ECU 5, a first means to decide transmitting characteristic of the transmission and a second means to control the changeover condition of the valve timing changeover mechanism are provided, and according to the condition of either the first means or the second means, the one means is controlled to interlock with the other.
