Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To obtain a water absorbing resin having high water absorptive ability and remarkably reduced in amount of an unpolymerized monomer contained in the resin by polymerizing a monomer mixture mainly containing an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid (salt) in the absence of a heavy metal. CONSTITUTION:A monomer mixture mainly containing an alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylic acid (salt) [e.g. (meth)acrylic acid] is polymerized in the absence of a heavy metal or in the presence of the heavy metal of <=0.1ppm, preferably <=0.02ppm to provide the aimed resin.
