Optical phase modulator
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To regulate the impressed voltage to an actuator even if the force to be exerted to a single mode fiber changes and to make stable operation of the optical phase regulator by detecting the force to be exerted to the single mode fiber by a pressure sensor and monitoring the phase change rate of light. CONSTITUTION:The piezoelectric actuator 101, the pressure sensor 102 and the single mode fiber 103 are held crimped between one side face of the square hole of a jig 100 and a screw 104 and are successively disposed in this state. The light propagating in the single mode fiber 103 is subjected to a phase change by a photoelastic effect. This phase change rate is proportional to the force exerted to the single mode fiber 103. The impressed voltage can be regulated while the phase change rate of the light is monitored when the force to be exerted to the single mode fiber 103 is changed by certain influence and the impressed voltage to the piezoelectric actuator 101 necessary for obtaining the prescribed phase change to the light needs be changed. The prescribed phase change is thus exactly obtd.
