Production of substituted anilides
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the subject microbicidally effective compd. by oxidizing α-phenylamino-γ-butyrolactone and subsequently reacting the same with a carboxylic acid halide and further hydrogenating the reaction product by H 2 and an enantioselectively active catalyst before chlorinating the same. CONSTITUTION: An α-phenylamino-γ-lactone represented by formula I (wherein R 1 and R 2 are each CH 3 or C 2 H 5 ) is oxidized to form a new intermediate represented by formula II and this intermediate is reacted with a carboxylic acid halide represented by formula III (wherein R 3 , is CH 3 , or CH 2 Cl and; X is Cl or R 3 COO-) or carboxylic anhydride to obtain a new intermediate represented by formula IV useful as a microbicidically effective component and this intermediate is hydrogenated by H 2 and an enantioselectively active catalyst to form a compd. represented by formula V and this compd. is chlorinated to obtain a diastereoisomeric mixture of a compd. represented by formula VI and this mixture is crystallized by using a solvent to obtain objective (aS, 1'R)-3-[N-aryl-N-(3-chlorophenyl)]-amino-tetrahydro-2-furanones represented by formula VI.
