Projection type image display device
Abstract
Abstract PURPOSE:To improve the utilization efficiency of light and to save the space by converting reflected light from a liquid crystal display element on a projection lens through a converging lens and setting the optical path in nearly the same direction. CONSTITUTION:The light from a light source 34 is guided to mirrors 33R and 33B and decomposed into color light beams lR, lG, and lB of red, green, and blue, which are diffracted by Fresnel lenses 32R, 32G, and 32B respectively to irradiate liquid crystal display elements 31R, 31G, and 31B almost at right angles, thereby obtaining image light beams which form a red, a green, and a blue image respectively from those liquid crystal display elements 31R, 31G, and 31B. Those image light beams are guided to the projection lens 35 through the Fresnel lenses 32R, 32G, and 32B. Thus, the light from the light source 34 is converged on the projection lens through the Fresnel lenses 32R, 32G, and 32B, so the utilization efficiency of the light is improved. Further, the optical part of the light from the light source and the optical path of the light to the projection lens 35 are almost in the same direction, so the space is saved.
