Abstract

Abstract PURPOSE:To prevent counterflow of residual gas in low speed range firmly by providing a check valve in an independent air intake passage of each cylinder and opening and closing it according to pressure difference up and down the check valve, in an air intake device with valve timing that an air intake valve closing time is set relatively slow. CONSTITUTION:A four-cylinder four-cycle engine 1 is provided with an air flow meter 12, throttle valve 13 and mechanical supercharger 14 in a common air intake passage 10 of an air intake passage 7 connected to an air intake port 3 of each cylinder 2, and an independent air intake passage 8 is branched from the common air intake passage 10. An air intake valve closing time Y expressed in crank angle from a bottom dead center and a valve opening overlap time X for air intake and exhaust valves are so set that they satisfy the equation Y>=-1.75X+10. In such an air intake device, a check valve 18 is provided in each independent air intake passage 8, and the check valve 18 is operated so that it is closed when a pressure down the valve becomes higher than that up the valve according to difference in pressure.
