Method for producing carboxy polysaccharide
Abstract
Abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a carboxypolysaccharide to be industrially prepd. by treating, with a chelating agent, a reaction mixture formed by the oxidation of a polysaccharide to thereby remove transition metals (e.g. ruthenium) from the mixture. SOLUTION: The chelating agent is a dithiocarbamate of formula I: R1R2N-C (=S)-SM or a dithiocarboxylate of formula II: R3-O-C(=S)-SM. In the formulas, R1, R2, and R3 are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, or 6-14C aryl; and M is a metal element. The chelating agent may be an oxime of formula III: R4R5C=NOH. In formula III, R4 and R5 are each H, a 1-10C alkyl, 6-14C aryl, or pyridyl. The treating temp. with the chelating agent is pref. 60-120 deg.C. Starch is pref. as the polysaccharide, the raw material, in terms of easiness of reaction and is used in a reaction concn. of 0.1-80 wt.%, pref. 1-50 wt.%.
