Orthodontic appliance
Abstract
Abstract 972,790. Orthodantic appliances. J. J. SCHACHTER. May 20, 1963, No. 20003/63. Heading A5R. An appliance for maintaining a gap between teeth comprises a band 1, for attachment to an adjacent tooth and a wire spacing element 7 having bent intermediate portions 18, 19 so that these can be straightened to any required extent and thereby cause elongation of the element 7 so that its free end bears against a further tooth. A channelled plate 2 is rigidly secured to the band 1 so as to provide two tubular portions 5, 6 into which the vertically downturned ends 16, 17 of the wire element can be placed, where they are retained by bending towards each other as shown. In a modified form both ends of the spacing element are similarly attached to bands placed around appropriate teeth and also, by suitably placing the free end of the spacing element surgically in the gum so as to bear against a tooth growing in that position.
