Abstract
Abstract 831,760. Springs for mounting bodies on railway vehicles. WESTINGHOUSE AIR BRAKE CO. Oct. 30, 1957 [Oct. 30, 1956], No. 33856/57. Class 103(6) [Also in Groups XXXI, XXXIV and XXXVII] In a variable load brake control apparatus (Group XXXIV) for rail vehicles, the vehicle body 32 is held at a constant predetermined height above the axles 83 by pressure in air-springs 7 controlled by a valve 8 operated through an arm 86 pivoted to link 87 anchored at its lower end to axle 83, the air under pressure being admitted to springs 7 from pipe 16 and exhausted through pipe 88. A spring 85 in the chamber 84 of the air spring 7 supports the body 32 at a minimum height should the air supply fail.
