Improvements in and relating to cassettes
Abstract
Abstract 831,747. Magnetic reproducing apparatus. GRUNDIG, M. Aug. 9, 1957 [Jan. 30, 1957], No. 25194/57. Class 40 (2). [Also in Group XX] A cassette comprises a lower part 1 which rotates with the reel-holder of a tape recorder and a part 2 stationary relative to the body of the recorder 22. The lower part 1 has a hub 8 and the upper part 2 a hub 18 which together form a bearing between the two parts. The tape is wound on a sleeve 4 on the lower part. The upper part has a lip 16 which closes the periphery of the cassette except for an opening 17 through which the tape passes. The inner end of the tape is secured by a loop to a peg 14 formed in the wall of the sleeve 4 and the free end of the tape is prevented from entering the cassette by an enlarged end 19. The two parts of the cassette are held together by a retaining clip 3 in a groove in the hub 8. The outside shape of the cassette may be circular and contain a notch 20 which engages a projection 21 on the recorder to prevent rotation. In a modification the cassette has an external lug 23 containing a hole 25. In a further modification the external shape of the cassette is indicated by the chain lines 24, 24 and in this case felt locating pads 28, 28 are provided.
