Abstract
Abstract 780,270. Change-speed gear. COLE, Ltd., E. K., and REEVES, R. J. D. Jan. 27, 1956 [Oct. 30, 1954], No. 31412/54. Class 80 (2). An input shaft 5, carrying fast wheels 3, 6 drives a radio-tune wheel 9 at reduced speed through wheel pairs 6, 7 ; 8, 9, until multi-revolution lost-motion is taken up between the fast wheel 3 and -a loose disc 4, by interposed loose discs having overlapping lugs 2 which come into contact successively to couple the wheels 3, 4, whereupon the latter, 4, forces the output wheel 9 axially out of mesh with the wheel 8 by balls 10 which ride up cam inclines in the faces of the wheels 4, 9 and finally couple the said wheels for direct drive. On reversal of drive, a blade or helical spring 11 returns the wheel 9 axially into mesh for reduced drive until the lostmotion is again absorbed.
