Improved method of and apparatus for spray coating articles

Abstract

Abstract <PICT:0679751/III/1> <PICT:0679751/III/2> A coating material is applied to an electrically conductive article by atomizing the coating material and projecting the atomized material through an electrical discharge into the vicinity of the article. Referring to Figs. 1 and 3 the articles 16 are carried through the spray booth 2 on earthed monorail conveyers 12 and 14 towards coating material projectors 20 and 22 immediately in front of which are paint charging electrode systems 24 and 26. A water curtain 28 maintained at ground potential traps any overspray. The spray booth may be filled with carbon dioxide or other inert gas to minimize fire risk.
