Method and mechanism for reinforcing one-piece boxes

[Class 73] [Also in Group XVII] In making a box as shown in Fig. 4 from a one-piece blank as shown in Fig. 4a, to which a reinforcing strip 13 is applied as shown in Fig. 4d, blanks are fed from a stack shown in the right of Fig. 4e past corner folders 57 and through an adhesive applier 58 to the reinforcing mechanism which feeds strips 13 from a stack by continuously moving rollers and conveyers 15, 17, 19 to a stop 22 and feed 21 which act intermittently. Stop 22 halts the blank while feed 21 is raised out of action, but rises to let a strip pass when a blank arrives on the main carrier while feed 21 contacts the strip to move it, preferably slightly faster than the blank itself is moving, on to the blank, with one end in a pocket on the blank. Folding and pressing conveyers thus complete the assembly, which are conveyed away in fan formation. The blank may also be as in Fig. 1a. Specification 490,479, [Group XVII], is referred to.
