Abstract

Abstract 490,352. Military land mines. DAMAN, P. C. Jan. 24, 1938, No. 2211. Convention date, Jan. 22, 1937. [Class 9 (ii)] Actuating-apparatus for the firing device of a land mine comprises a pair of plates 1, 2, Fig. 5, and a pair of levers 6 located therebetween and pivoted intermediate their ends in supports 4 on the plate 2. The outer ends of the levers are pivoted on spindles 3<1> in supports 3 depending from the upper plate 1 whilst the inner ends of the levers are connected together and to a plate member 10 between which and the plate 1 a rubber tube 12 is compressed when a load is imposed on the plate 1. The tube 12 is connected as shown at 13, Fig. 8, to bellows 20 located in the casing 14 of the firing mechanism which is mounted on the container 15 enclosing the explosives. When the bellows are elongated by compression of the tube 12, a projection 21 on the lower face of the bellows separates the flat springs 22 and allows the striker 25 to be actuated by its spring 23 and explode the mine. According to a modification, Figs. 7 and 10 (not shown), the inner ends of the levers 6 are connected to one end of a Bowden wire, the other end of which carries a block adapted, when the plate 1 is depressed by a load, to be drawn upwardly within the casing 14 so as to act on and separate extensions of the springs 22 and thus release the striker 25. If desired, leaf springs may be interposed between the levers 6 and plate 1 in this arrangement.
