Improvements in spools for thread or yarn
Abstract
Abstract 461,069. Spools. FRUH, K. Aug. 14, 1936, No. 22439. [Class 120 (iii)] A spool for textile purposes is covered with textile fabric which is varnished or impregnated and the tip of the spool is left smooth either by the fabric covering stopping short of the tip or by the covering extending over the tip and being made smooth thereat. As shown in Fig. 1, the spool is of metal slotted longitudinally except at the smooth tip c and the textile covering d is secured at the foot of the spool by a cap e and near the tip c by being folded into a groove f in the spool, the edge of the covering being flush with the surface of the tip c or sunk with relation thereto. The spool has a bearing member g secured by a ring h which presses the shank of the spool into a channel in the member g. In a modification, the covering extends over the tip of the spool and is smoothed. In another form, the covering extends over the top of the spool and inside it, and a tapered cap, pushed upwards from the bottom of the spool, is flattened over the covering and forms the smooth tip. The spool may be formed of two concentric parts fitted together. The spool may have an inner fabric covering and may be divided longitudinally by a pair of slots, each part being provided with a complete fabric covering.
