Abstract
Abstract A fuel injection nozzle tip 13 has a reduced end portion 16 of a bore which carries a fuel pressure actuated valve member. Where a symmetrical spray pattern is required but where it is not possible to mount the nozzle so that the axis 26 of the bore coincides with the cylinder or combustion chamber axis, the orifices 27,28 can be drilled at the required angle but the contour at the points of exit from the born 16 would not be the same. This is overcome by making at least one orifice 29 in the form of a curved drilling so that the contour at each exit from the bore 16 is the same. <IMAGE>

Claim 1
Independent Claim
200 words
A fuel injection nozzle comprising a nozzle body of generally cylindrical form and having a tip at one end thereof, a bore extending into the body from the other end thereof, a reduced portion of said bore extending into said tip, a seating defined in said bore, a valve member slidable in said bore and shaped for co-operation with said seating, a fuel supply passage in said body, a surface on said valve member and against which in use fuel under pressure supplied through said passage can flow to act on said surface to lift the valve member from the seating thereby to permit fuel to flow into the reduced portion of said bore, outlet orifices extending from said reduced end portion of the bore to the surface of said tip characterised in that the outer ends of said outlet orifices are not symmetrically disposed about the longitudinal axis of the bore and one or more of said outlet orifices is formed as a curved drilling whereby the contour of the reduced portion of the bore at the points of exit of the outlet orifices from the reduced portion of the bore can be arranged to be substantially the same.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
18 words
A nozzle according to claim 1 in which the curved drilling is formed by an electro-chemical machining process.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
21 words
A fuel injection nozzle comprising the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
21 words
A fuel injection nozzle comprising the combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
