Abstract

Abstract A connector for medico-surgical tubing 8 has a plastics body 1 with a male Luer tapered forward portion 5 that is shaped for engagement with a coupling member 18 having a co- operating Luer tapered bore 20. The body 1 has a rear portion 4 of prismatic shape and square cross- section that is embraced by a square aperture 13 in a rear flange 12 of a locking ring 2. The locking ring 2 has a cylindrical portion 11 which extends axially of the connector and which has an internal screw thread 15 and 16 for engaging co-operating projections 21 and 22 on the coupling member 18. The locking ring 2 is thereby free to slide axially along the prismatic portion 4 of the connector body 1 but is prevented from rotation relative to it. <IMAGE>

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 71 words
A connector having a body with a Luer tapered portion adapted for engagement with a coupling member having a cooperating Luer tapered portion so as thereby to enable a fluidtight seal to be formed therebetween, wherein the said connector has a locking member mounted thereon that is adapted for engagement with said coupling member, and wherein said body and said locking member are arranged such as to restrict relative rotation therebetween.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 71 words
A connector having a body with a Luer tapered portion adapted for engagement with a coupling member having a cooperating Luer tapered portion so as thereby to enable a fluidtight seal to be formed therebetween, wherein the said connector has a locking member mounted thereon that is adapted for engagement with said coupling member, and wherein said body and said locking member are arranged such as to restrict relative rotation therebetween.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 22 words
A connector according to Claim 1 wherein said locking member is free for limited axial displacement along the body of said connector.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 41 words
A connector according to Claim 2 wherein said locking member is adapted for axial displacement away from said Luer tapered portion of the connector such as to enable free access to at least a major part of said Luer tapered portion.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
A connector according to any one of the preceding claims wherein ihe said locking member comprises a ring having an aperture therethrough that embraces the body of said connector.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 33 words
A connector according to Claim 4 wherein said ring is formed with a screw thread on an inner surface thereof that is adapted for engagement with a cooperating projection on said coupling member.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
A connector according to Claim 4 or 5 wherein the body of said connector includes a portion of prismatic shape and wherein the said aperture in said ring closely embraces said prismatic portion.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 14 words
A connector according to Claim 6 wherein said prismatic portion has a square cross-section.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 73 words
A connector according to any one of Claims 4 to 7 wherein the said locking ring embraces a portion of the body of said connector to the rear of said Luer tapered portion and wherein the rear of said Luer tapered portion is arranged to project above the surface of a part at least of the said portion embraced by said ring so as thereby to limit forward axial displacement of said ring.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
A connector according to any one of Claims 4 to 8 wherein said aperture is formed in a flange of said ring and wherein said flange is recessed axially of said connector.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 22 words
A connector according to any one of the preceding claims wherein the body of said connector is formed of a plastics material.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
A connector according to any one of the preceding claims wherein said locking member is formed of a plastics material.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 18 words
A connector substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1, 2 and 5 of the accompanying drawings.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 18 words
A connector substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 1, 2 and 5 of the accompanying drawings.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 13 words
Medico-surgical tubing including a connector according to any one of the preceding claims.
