Spike connectors for connecting timber and the like
Abstract
Abstract 188,331. Johansson, J., and Solberg, L. Oct. 31, 1921, [Convention date]. Pins, dowel and like; spiked plates and strips.-Dowels or connecting plates for timber &c. are made from strips of metal having bulged spikes so that the amount of friction is the same whichever way they are driven relatively to the grain of the wood. Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively a plan and side view of a dowel &c. according to the invention in which the spikes are somewhat tapered. Modifications are illustrated and described in which the straight portion of the metal strip forms interrupted parts of a continuous curve, in which the straight portions are omitted leaving a continuous wavy section. The strips of spikes, dowels, or connecting plates may form a spiral, open or closed ring, polygon &c. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a dowel in which the spikes are alternately bent at right angles in opposite directions. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
