Musical instrument
Abstract
Abstract 1,237,684. Electrophonic musical instruments; recording and playback. J. J. McLOUGHLIN. 26 June, 1968 [27 June, 1967], No. 29599/67. Headings G5J and G5R. An electrophonic musical instrument comprises a plurality of drums 10 rotated by a motor 30, each drum carrying recordings of different notes of a conventional musical instrument at different axial positions to co-operate with respective pick-up heads 15 connected to an amplifier 18 via key switches 17. The drums have notes of different musical instruments and are arranged on a carrier 11 to be brought selectively against the heads 15 by rotating knob 34. The attack and decay characteristics of the respective instruments are introduced by the circuits S 1 to S 6 selected by the knob 34. To provide for simultaneous playing of melody and accompaniment, the keyboard 16 is divided into three parts: the lower notes which are connected to circuits S 1 to S 6 directly, the upper notes through an auxiliary amplifier 22, the intermediate notes being connected either way by switches 23. Pedals 27, 28 control the gain of amplifiers 18 and 22. Each drum comprises a central roll with a covering of resilient foam plastics material and an outer layer of magnetic recording film.
