Motor vehicle with handbrake lever mounted thereon
Abstract
Abstract 1,237,205. Motor vehicle handbrakes. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 11 Dec., 1969 [8 Feb., 1969], No. 6970/69. Heading B7H. [Also in Division F2] A motor vehicle has a handbrake lever 1, Fig. 1, pivotally mounted on the floor 4 or transmission tunnel, or both, of the vehicle; the lever is pivotable about a horizontal axis 2 in such a position relative to the front seat mounting that the lever abuts (as shown, when the brake needs adjustment), or nearly abuts, when in a substantially upright position, the front of the seat cushion 21 when the seat is in its furthest-forward adjusted position on its mounting; the lever 1 has a handle portion 23 which is inclined relative to the remainder 22 of the lever so that it extends at least partly around the front of the seat cushion, in its furthest forward position, when the lever is in the substantially upright position. As shown, a locking pawl 6, Fig. 1, normally urged by a compression spring 15, Fig. 2, into contact with a ratchet plate 3, may be released by pushing in a push-button 19 having a cam surface 18 co-operating with an end member 14 on rod 8. Push-button 19 is opposed by a compression spring 20. Instead of the screw connection of Tee-piece handle 9 with lever 1, the handle may be formed by die-casting or as a plastics moulding around two transverse annular ridges formed at the upper end of lever 1 (Fig. 4, not shown).
