Technique for the continuous production of gas from organic materials by the series coupling of two digesters of different type and design
Abstract
Abstract The installation is composed of two digesters in series. The first digester, of the sludge-bed type, operates at a constant level. It is fed semi-continuously with the fermentable materials and the water quality necessary for achieving a concentration of dry materials of 6%. The clarified aqueous phase of the first digester is injected continuously or discontinuously into the second digester of the type with bacteria on a support, in which the soluble organic compounds are methanised. The depleted liquors are subsequently recycled in the first digester. The second digester operates according to a cyclic process involving successive phases of depletion and recharging of the liquors. The bacterial supports consist of flexible or rigid strips of fibrous or porous materials arranged vertically and in parallel.
