Automobile steering wheel with increased driver visibility - has rim connected to hub by continuous transparent plastics sheet defining cone

Abstract

Abstract The rim (1) of the wheel is connected to the hub (6) by a continuous flat transparent sheet (2) whose exterior edge (8) is embedded in the rim and whose internal edge (9) is fixed on a tube (5) playing the role of energy absorber. The sheet is fixed on the tube by injection moulding. The sheet is made of a plastics material whose characteristics meet the specification requirements. The tube is fixed onto the hub by aluminium casting. The sheet is capped by a hood (4) in the same plastics material as the bole (3) inserted at the centre at the sheet. The wheel improves visibility for the car driver.
