Syringe with concealed drive system for oscillation of the needle - for injecting porous jaw bones etc. with anaesthetics
Abstract
Abstract A syringe for injecting anaesthetic or other liqs. directly into porous bone, such as jaw contains a plunger driven in rotary oscillation and linked to the needle via a sleeve enclosed within the body of the syringe, which remains static. The link between the piston and the rotary sleeve is keyed longitudinally so that the piston can advance or retract relative to the external casing while still driving the rotary lining. Pref. the plunger is driven by an eccentric coupling to a constant rotation micromotor drive, as used by dentists, mounted on a removeable handle radial to the syringe axis. Less alarming or uncomfortable for the patient than designs in which the rotating mechanisms are exposed.
