Telephone handset with built-in switch - has switch arranged to turn off microphone when handset is placed on flat surface

Abstract

Abstract The handset includes a curved handle (2) with a loudspeaker (4) at one end, and an enclosure (6) at the other end housing a microphone (10). On the same surface as the microphone grill, there is a pushbutton switch (9). The switch, mounted inside the enclosure has a shaft (11) linking it to a projecting button (12). When a predetermined force is applied to the button, the switch is operated, cutting off the connection to the microphone. The switch may be operated by the weight of the handset and is on the exposed end of the set, so that if the handset is put down, the switch is operated, turning off the microphone.
