Prodn. of fuel pellets and compost from household rubbish - using sizing screws to eliminate chlorine producing materials from fuel
Abstract
Abstract The treatment includes rough shredding the rubbish followed by pneumatic sepn. of a light fraction which is then passed through a cyclone separator. Solids from the cyclone are fine shredded and pressed into pellets etc. for solid fuel. Part of the air exhausted by the cyclone is employed in the pneumatic separator. The solids discharged by the cyclone are run over a sizing screen on their way to the fine shredder. Fines passing the sizing screen are collected as compost. Pref. exhaust air from the cyclone is also used to convey material discharged by the fine shredding mill to the next stage on its way to pressing. Pref. the heavy fraction from the pneumatic separator is passed over a sizing screen. Fines which pass through this sizing screen are collected as compost. The fuel pellets are virtually free from material which would give off chlorine. Most of the PVC rubbish is in the heavy fraction from the pneumatic separator and runs over the heavy fraction screen to waste. Any sodium chloride from household kitchen passes through the sizing screens into the compost.
